TICKET TO OZ - Terms and Conditions

Conditions for entry & prize winner

  • Applications are invited from Sixth Form students in full time education, aged 16-18, attending a school or college within the Britain-Australia Society West Country Branch region
  • Applications should be supported by the student’s Head Teacher
  • The decisions of the panel of judges will be final. The Judges are:
    • Professor Carl Bridge PhD FRHistS. Head of The Menzies Centre for Australian Studies Kings College London
    • Sir Roger Carrick, KCMG,LVO, President of the West Country Branch of the Britain-Australia Society and former British High Commissioner to Australia
    • Mr Godfrey Hall MA Dip.Ed. F.Coll.P. Education Adviser and Examiner on behalf of the Commonwealth Society
  • The winner will be judged on originality and interest
  • The prize is a return economy class air ticket and is provided by the West Country Branch of the Britain-Australia Society. The fare level will be based on the most economical off peak London-Sydney return fare at the rate published by travel agents at the time of booking. Up to a maximum of £1200 to include economy class ticket with any balance towards expenses.
  • The winner must spend at least 6 months in Australia as part of a gap year experience.
  • Additional travel may be arranged at the time of booking, although this will be at the winner’s personal expense
  • Awards will be presented at the annual Admiral Arthur Phillip Birthday Celebration Luncheon at the Guildhall, where the winners will be invited to be the guests of the Britain-Australia Society
  • Prize winners will be expected to participate in any press or media coverage associated with this competition
  • The necessary visas and other travel documentation must be provided by and be the responsibility of the recipients
  • Travel must be completed within 2 years of the presentation date.
  • The prize is not transferable nor redeemable in cash
  • The Britain-Australia Society acts only as ticket provider and all responsibilities related to the complete journey will be to the travel company issuing the ticket and making arrangements. Proper travel insurances must be arranged by the winner.
